Old Engine 501 in Childress, Texas inspired the column length. Topics vary from farming and housekeeping to vagaries of the English language -- and sometimes even trains.

Over the past decade, Hanaba has written columns on architecture with an emphasis on historical preservation. As Main Street Manager in Quanah, Texas, she first wrote “Dome on the Range” for the Tribune-Chief and later “Frozen Music” -- 200-word columns to enhance walking tours of historic downtown Quanah. During a stint in 2011-2012 as a reporter for The Post Dispatch in Post, Texas, Hanaba revived “Frozen Music” for a ten-week run, writing about buildings on East Main Street in Post, a utopian town established by cereal magnate C. W. Post. The March 2014 issue of Permian Basin Oil & Gas magazine -- http://pbog.zacpubs.com/restored-stations-are-a-gas/ -- features an article by Hanaba on vintage filling stations, plus several pictures of old stations.
